| OLSH Katherine Careers Expo. The OLSH careers excursion to Katherine was a resounding success. This is partially due to the footwear that New Balance provided our students with Wild Geese and Melbourne football club support. Day 1: Students started to gather excitedly at the school on the morning of the 21st August in preparation for their flight to Katherine where they were to attend a careers expo, and numerous other fun and career based activities. Their excitement grew when they were issued with their new shoes that were essential to board the plane and other events on the trip. Most of these students do not own any shoes and were very happy to wear them. By the end of the trip they were glad to remove them and tend the blisters they caused. After arriving in Katherine the students quickly settled into their lodgings for the next 3 nights then off to the Hot Springs for a swim. Day 2: Students put on their shoes that they needed to wear on the tour of Tindal RAAF base. Here they saw many exciting things and handled real military equipment. They then attended a careers expo at Katherine High School and then went to Katherine Gorge. At Katherine Gorge the students went on a 2 kilometer return hike up to Leliyn Lookout. Day 3: Students put on their shoes again for the Try-a-Trade program. Here they had the opportunity to observe and try various occupations. After that students did some shopping then hiked 5 kilometers along the Katherine River. Day 4: Students rose early for a trip to Mataranka Hot Springs then returned back to Katherine Airport by 12:30 for the 1:00pm flight to Wadeye. Thanks Wild Geese for being a major part this great learning experience with our young men and women from Our of Lady Sacred Thamurruru Catholic School. |
